Trinity Sunday

The Hospitality of Abraham (also called Trinity) is an icon by Andrei Rublev which shows the three angels that appeared to Abraham at Mamre.

Though the three angels are not the three persons of the Trinity,
they represent the Trinity.
The angel in the middle represents Christ, with a chalice.

WELCOME

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, and in peace we gather before the living God who made us, redeemed us, and sustains our life together. In our prayers and praise, may we know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

Today’s first reading is from Isaiah, chapter 40 vv 12-17 and 27 to the end
Here we read that the Lord the God of Israel eternally holds the entire universe.

The second reading is from the Second letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13, vv 11 to the end
Christians are to greet one another in the name of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The gospel is Matthew 28, vv 16 to the end
Here Jesus leaves his disciples with a promise to be with them for ever.

The Dorset coast with its amazing fossils is a window into the ancient history of Britain. A mind-boggling 150 million years old. These fossils make us think of eternity and the God, the living God who is eternal. We see that the world existed long before us and will probably exist after us. And we recognise that God existed before time began and will continue to all eternity. So the doctrine of the Holy Trinity helps us to think about the living God who is not limited by space or time and whom we encounter in different ways every day.

COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given us your servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity
and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity:
keep us steadfast in this faith,
that we may evermore be defended from all adversities;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
All Amen

READINGS

Isaiah 40.12-17, 27-end

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has directed the spirit of the Lord, or as his counsellor has instructed him?1Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice? Who taught him knowledge,   and showed him the way of understanding? Even the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as dust on the scales; see, he takes up the isles like fine dust. Lebanon would not provide fuel enough, nor are its animals enough for a burnt-offering. All the nations are as nothing before him;   they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel,‘My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God’? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,   the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary;   his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,   they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

2 Corinthians 13.11-end

Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God to one body – Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

THE GOSPEL READING

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
Glory to you, O Lord.

Matthew 28.16-end

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.

INTERCESSIONS

God in three persons, blessed Trinity, on this special day, we have come before you to offer our praise and adoration. You are God, the creator, giving us richly all things to enjoy. You are Christ the Saviour of the world, made flesh to set us free. You are the Spirit of truth and love, willing to dwell in us. You are holy and blessed.  One God, eternal Trinity, be near to us the people formed in your image, and close to the world, your love brings to life.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

God in three persons, blessed Trinity, we pray for your church throughout the world, for those that are thriving and those which have lost a sense of direction.  We give thanks for our parish and its people, and gladly acknowledge all the gifts you have given us through its life, we ask you to open wide our hearts that we may welcome the stranger and share our faith with others.  You, Lord, have chosen men and women to serve you in the ministry of your church and have given them a perfect example in the person of your son

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

God in three persons, blessed Trinity, we remember all who bear the responsibility of leadership, for heads of state, ambassadors and political advisers, we think today particularly of all in authority that they may never be tempted to abuse or misuse their power; let your will for our world be accomplished through the decisions they make and give them a vision of peace and reconciliation for you Lord can find a way when men and women are lost.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

God in three persons, blessed Trinity, we pray for peace in the world, in our communities and our families: create in us a love for peace, not peace that is absent from struggle, nor peace that is blind to injustice but the peace that makes whole what now is broken.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

God in three persons, blessed Trinity, we remember this morning those who are sick, sad or lonely and those who are brave and patient when things are going wrong. We pray that they may be aware of your comforting presence and know that in your hands they are safe and loved.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

God in three persons, blessed Trinity, we remember before God, those who have died and we pray for all whose life is saddened by the death of a loved one, be with them in their loneliness and let them know that Jesus Christ is the light of the world a light which no darkness can quench. We especially pray for those killed in the London terrorist attack last week.

Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer

Father God, lead us into the coming week, Son of God, help us to believe that you are close to us, Spirit of God, keep us from making mistakes, Triune God, help us never to disappoint you, and when we face hard decisions or difficult work, when we enjoy ourselves and have fun with others may we know that you share these times with us.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Rory’s fundraiser for Windsor Homeless Projecthttps://www.justgiving.com/page/liza-macrobert-1683047618888Rory loves drawing and was recently inspired by a homeless man that we met in Windsor. Every time we go into town he wants to do something to help. We came up with the idea that he could draw a picture and sell copies. So for a donation to his chosen charity you could own a magnificent piece of artwork! Thank you for supporting him to help Windsor Homeless.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
