Welcome to St Andrews Clewer

The parish church of St Andrew, Clewer is the oldest building in Windsor, probably Saxon and certainly containing elements of the Norman style.

The chalk cliff, in the Manor of Clewer, was chosen by William the Conqueror for his fortress in Windsor. It was one of a ring of such fortifications around London, each a day’s ride by horse from the capital. This particular one developed into Windsor Castle, and rent was paid for the site at regular intervals until the 16th century.

St Andrews is a growing church. We hold regular Sunday services including a children’s service on the 3rd Sunday of every month, as well as events during the week including: weddings, baptisms and funerals, developing faith, Prayers & Bears for younger children, family holiday clubs, concerts, theatre performances, and bell ringing for services and special occasions.

The Church is currently undergoing necessary extensive and expensive renovations, including repairs to the roof, the spire and the internal pillars, which date from the Norman period. Given its history, St Andrews is regularly visited by tourists and genealogy enthusiasts. In order that St Andrews can be a more flexible space and reflect the needs of the community, and visitors both local and from farther afield, we wish to re-order the internal space of the Church to include a much-needed toilet and servery, and space for children.
