Hope in the Rubble: stories from Haiti

6.30 – 8.30 pm, Saturday 17 March 2012

Dedworth Green Baptist Church, Smith’s Lane, SL4 5PE

Here is a chance to hear directly from someone who is working to rebuild Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Aldrin Calixte works for Haiti Survie, a Christian Aid partner organisation. Haiti Survie has been helping families to recover from the earthquake, with emergency food and shelter, new quake-resistant homes, and cash grants for restarting small businesses. Aldrin is Haitian and is passionate about protecting his country’s natural resources and helping people to cope with natural disasters. We will also be looking ahead to Christian Aid Week 2012.

This event includes a light supper so we need to know numbers! Please RSVP to your local church Christian Aid representative, or Tracy Tickle on tracytickle@hotmail.com, or to the Oxford Christian Aid office on 01865 246818 or oxford@christian-aid.org.

The fishing industry in the south east of Haiti has the potential to provide an income for many families displaced by the earthquake, or for those hosting more family members than they can cope with. Haiti Survie is working here to support the fishing community, for example by providing a cold storage chamber which will stop fishermen being forced to sell their fish at a low price.
