Proclaiming Christ in Clewer

Pews News: March 2016

Welcome, in the name of Jesus Christ, to this house of prayer.

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be perished but may have eternal life. 17Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 3:16-17

(NRSV, 1989)

Rector’s Ramblings

As we entered into Lent, we were reminded of the theme of ‘journey’. Lent is a journey towards the Cross. Part of the RE curriculum for Year 4 this term at Clewer Green, has been about Pilgrimage- is a holy journey necessary for believers?

So we went on a pilgrimage, a pilgrimage through everyday places in our local community. With our banner ‘On Pilgrimage’ held high leading the way, we started… in front of the school, from there we headed to the Clewer Fuel Allotments, across to the Rec, past the Rectory and onto St Andrews. Normal everyday places. But the difference this time was stopping, thinking about the history and purpose of the place and praying. Giving thanks for learning, growing/creation, playing, living, and worshipping. Each ordinary everyday place began to take on a different meaning and became a wonderful journey of discovery. We had our prayer for the journey, which we said as we left one place and moved to another; and on our return to school the sun had come out?

Our journey towards the cross is now immanent, what kind of journey has it been for you? Has it been holy? Pilgrimages don’t always have to be oversees and expensive, they can start at our front door. A holy journey is one which changes us, transforms us, renews us and enriches our lives and relationship with God, as the Saints show us. Everyday places and paths can be holy ground and places of discovery. So, YES, a holy journey is necessary for believers.

Prayer for our journey

In all our travelling, in our journeying to school and returning, within our homes and families, in our leisure time together, as we stumble on the way, in the travelling of our faith, as we place our trust in you, may your footsteps guide us. In all our travelling, Lord, may it be your footsteps in which we place our feet. Amen

On your journey, wishing you blessed and holy Easter

Revd Rosie

Parish Office is now held on Saturday mornings at St Andrews, but during the 5 weeks of Lent Lunches, it will be at St Agnes, 10-11am. Ordinarily then St Andrews will be open for visitors 10-12 Saturday mornings, so if anyone wants to see the Rector, no appointments necessary, just turn up. The coffee will be on so if you want to come along, please do. If you have any enquires about weddings, baptisms or funerals this is the time to come.

Church yard tidy: Please see Bob Lester for the next event, with all this wind and rain there is a lot to clear up. We’d appreciate the help. Thank you.

PCC is a body of people who manage/look after all aspects of the church, from buildings, churchyard, finance, rotas, worship, legal aspects to deciding to be a Fairtrade church.

We are always looking for new members who can catch the vision of God’s mission here in Clewer. Please pray about this and if you can answer YES to all the following, please talk to Revd Rosie:

  1. Attends church almost every Sunday
  2. Is prepared to implement jobs
  3. Has spiritual vision
  4. feels that you are called by God for this role

The London Marathon 24th April 2016.  Supporting our church family members

Three weeks after her 59th birthday Gillian Bailey decided that a new challenge was required. Instead of sitting in the lounge, excitedly watching the London Marathon for another year, she would finally run it! So with 30,000 other runners she will be standing on that famous start line to begin the 26.2 mile course: 60 years old, not having run more than ten kilometres in about 30 years, and blind!

Six months after having a baby, and with an ankle injury picked up carrying bricks in the garden while eight months pregnant, Hazel agreed, based on absolutely no evidence, that she would make an excellent guide-runner. So with knowledge gained entirely from reading on the internet and a solid approach of ‘what’s the worst that can happen’ she will be guiding Gillian round the Marathon course.

Two women: both completely unfit; one nursing injuries and a baby; the other one blind, are training for the London Marathon. Tied together.

And it is all for a good cause. Guide Dogs say ‘We will not rest until people who are blind or partially sighted can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else’www.guidedogs.org.uk   gillandhazelrun.wordpress.com
