Proclaiming Christ in Clewer

Pews News: June 2017

Welcome, in the name of Jesus Christ, to this house of prayer.

Rector’s Ramblings

Rector’s Ramblings The rectory roses are now finally all out in full bloom, the colour and heady sent breathed in deeply gives me that sense of wonder, calm and beauty. Waiting for them all to come out takes some patience and care and of course, the right weather. And although the rectory gardener does an amazing job, even he can’t actually determine the day they will open up to their full glory. In Jesus’ final days before his ascension, the disciples asked ‘is this the time when you will restore all things?’, and they asked more than once. The 10 days between Ascension and Pentecost is traditionally a time to focus on prayer, as a reminder of the disciples waiting for the Holy Spirit, so we reflect on the church year past and look ahead to the coming of the Holy Spirit and celebrate Pentecost. But we know that the Holy Spirit moves at its own time and space, not only at Pentecost but every single day. Every day is a Pentecost day and that was very evident in the actions of those who helped in Manchester on that terrible day. And it is through prayer that we find strength and peace in our everyday lives and the situations we find ourselves in; prayer is for every day, any moment, any time, and is a means with which to deepen our relationship with God. Jesus says that he WILL come again and restore the Kingdom, not in the disciples’ lifetime as they expected, but in the time and space determined only by God. In mean time whilst we wait we are to get one with living. Whatever else is going on, God’s purposes are much more complex, more incomprehensible, more unpredictable than anything they or us can imagine. So, we pray, we live in fellowship, we care for our neighbours, and share the love and peace of Christ together. This is a famous quote from Teresa of Avila:

“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”
Christ will come again!       May the Spirit be with you always.        Revd Rosie
