Helping Others

WELCOME

God’s nature and mercy are revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. So we come to him in our worship this Sunday in response to Christ’s invitation to walk with him and learn from him.

The first reading is from Zechariah, chapter 9, vv 9-12
Here Zechariah the prophet foretells the coming of the Messianic king who will subdue warring nations and establish a kingdom of peace. God’s people will know the joy of full deliverance and restoration.

The second reading is from the letter to the Romans. chapter 7, vv 15-25
St Paul expresses his internal conflict. His decision to obey God’s law is continually overthrown by his sinful natures’s desire. Only Jesus’ power, not his own effort, can set him free.

And the gospel reading is from St Matthew, chapter 11, vv 16-19, 25- end
Jesus laments the spiritual dullness of God’s people, but rejoices that those willing to receive him as God’s son and the way to the Father. He invites the oppressed to draw close, promising them rest in his loving presence. And perhaps we should keep in mind Matthew, chapter 11, v 28 “Come to me all that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest”.

Jesus urges us not to be afraid. His desire is for us to walk lightly in his company.

Canon Brian

COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified:
hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people,
that in their vocation and ministry
they may serve you in holiness and truth
to the glory of your name;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
All Amen

READINGS

Zechariah 9.9-12

Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the warhorse from Jerusalem; and the battle-bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Romans 7.15-25a

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, with my mind I am a slave to the law of God, but with my flesh I am a slave to the law of sin.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

THE GOSPEL READING

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
Glory to you, O Lord.

Matthew 11.16-19, 25-end

‘But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market-places and calling to one another, “We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;   we wailed, and you did not mourn.”For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon”; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners!” Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.’

At that time Jesus said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.

INTERCESSIONS

Everlasting God, we bring our prayers to you, Lord of all nations, asking that your blessing of love and peace may be known to all people everywhere.  Help us to bear abundant fruit from the seeds of potential that you have planted within us.
Lord, in your Mercy: hear our Prayer

Holy God, we pray for your church, especially for the people you have called to be prophets and teachers in our generation. We pray that they will be strengthened and protected by the Holy Spirit and that through them your Church will reveal the good news of salvation and draw all people together under your rule of justice and mercy.
Lord, in your Mercy: hear our Prayer

Creator God, we are your chosen stewards of this beautiful world; you provide us with seed and soil to sow them in but sometimes we abuse this privilege and so we look to you for forgiveness for the damage we have done to this earth and pray that you would show us ways of healing the wounds that we have inflicted on the land, ourselves and on each other.
Lord, in your Mercy: hear our Prayer

Father God, we pray that in our communities all will be welcome and accepted regardless of nationality, colour, gender or status and that we will seek always to serve you and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, in one another.
Lord, in your Mercy: hear our Prayer

Gracious God, we raise before you all those who seek healing of body, mind or spirit asking that they will sense the touch of your loving hands and feel your peace and presence alongside them, each and every step of their journey towards healing and wholeness. We pray especially for: Blake, Sam, Don, Karl, Sarah, Joanna, Holly, Hugo, Frank and Barbara, Bill, Suzanne, Christopher, Jackie, Diane, Sylvia, Mary, Gracie, Carmel, and Christine. Refugees, Prisoners, the Homeless and those who mourn.
Lord, in your Mercy: hear our Prayer

Loving God, we remember before you all those who have died.  May they see your salvation and find their peace and final rest in you and we especially pray for those who were a formative part of our lives, who made us who we are and who we still miss. We pray for all those recently departed this life, and those whose anniversaries fall at this time.
Lord, in your Mercy: hear our Prayer

Faithful God, we offer you these prayers for ourselves and for others. We ask you to accept them and to use them, and us so that your will may be done on earth and more of your kingdom revealed to those who seek you.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

From the Chaplaincy of the Holy Spirit Costa Blanca

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Grant, O Lord, we beseech you,
that the course of this world may be so peaceably ordered by your governance,
that your Church may joyfully serve you in all godly quietness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

 *** BREAKING NEWS ***

PCC MEETING ON 18TH JULY – 7.30PM

The next meeting of the PCC (Parochial Church Council) will be in-person (venue TBC) on Tuesday 18th July at 7.30pm. Minutes of the previous meeting will be recirculated beforehand, as well as the agenda for this meeting.

On Saturday 12th August Kerith Church will be hosting a Charity Family Fun Day at Kerith Windsor (Fairacres Industrial Estate, Dedworth Rd, Windsor SL4 4LE) between 12-3pm. The main focus for raising the money will be for Windsor Foodshare.

To raise the money they will be holding a jumble sale, people will have to pay a pitch fee and anyone that wants to look around the stalls will have to pay an entrance fee, all that money will go towards Foodshare. Any money the sellers make will be theirs or they can choose to donate that too.

Spaces to sell at the jumble sale are limited and anyone wanting to have a pitch will have to get in touch socialmedia@kerith.church

On top of raising money for Foodshare, they’re hoping that other charities/ministries might want to get involved and raise money for their causes through different means such as tombolas, tuck shops, and more.
