![]() WELCOME Welcome Trinity 5 This week has been all about trying new things and stepping outside our comfort zones. As the Children’s and Families Team, we spent time on training focused on outdoor learning and emotional wellbeing at Gabriels. For many children, spending time outdoors, getting muddy and exploring nature doesn’t come naturally anymore. After years of hearing messages to stay indoors and stay clean to stay safe during COVID, being outside can feel unfamiliar. Yet giving children the opportunity to connect with nature can have a big impact on their wellbeing. During the training we learnt that just six minutes of birdsong is the equivalent of 1hr of meditation to lower cortisol levels. Just a short time spent outdoors can help us all slow down, reflect and experience a sense of peace that is often missing from busy daily life. We’re excited to put what we’ve learnt into practice through our Wild Worship sessions at school and church, helping people to encounter God through creation, deepen their spiritual connection and develop a lasting care for the world He has made. We also had the pleasure of welcoming the Foundation children from Clewer Green First School to church on Wednesday for our first Church Explorers Day. While a few of the children already know our church well, for many it was their very first time stepping inside the building. Together we explored what happens behind the church doors. We talked about prayer and listening to God, discovered what happens at the altar, explored the important role of music in worship and learned about baptism. The children were full of curiosity and enthusiasm, asking wonderful questions as they explored each part of the church. Our hope is that this experience has helped make church feel like a more familiar and welcoming place and we look forward to seeing these children return in autumn for their first family worship as they begin Year 1. It was also lovely to hear how much the teachers enjoyed the day too, they’re already looking forward to bringing next year’s cohort along! Overall this week has been a lovely reminder that whether we’re young or old, God often meets us when we’re willing to take that small step beyond what’s familiar. Sometimes the greatest discoveries begin with simply being willing to explore. Emilie Children & Families Champion ———————————————— Zechariah 9:9-12: God promises a new king. This king is not proud or violent. He is humble and brings peace. God also promises to set prisoners free and restore hope to his people. Romans 7:15-25: Paul talks about the struggle inside every person. He wants to do what is right, but often does what is wrong. He knows he cannot rescue himself. His hope is in Jesus Christ. Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30: Jesus says that some people refuse to listen to God, whatever message they hear. But Jesus also gives a gentle invitation. He tells tired and burdened people to come to him, and he promises them rest. The readings today remind us that God brings peace, freedom, and rest. They show that people are weak and often struggle, but God offers hope through Jesus. Blessings for your week Revd Rosie SUNDAY SERVICES 05TH JULY 5TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY 10:30am All-Age Eucharist 5:00pm Eucharist COLLECT Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified: hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people, that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen READINGS Zechariah 9.9-12 Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 He will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the warhorse from Jerusalem; and the battle-bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.11 As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12 Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double. Romans 7.15-25 I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. 17But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. 19For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. 20Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.21So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. 22For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, 23but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!So then, with my mind I am a slave to the law of God, but with my flesh I am a slave to the law of sin. Matthew 11.16-19, 25-end 16 ‘But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market-places and calling to one another,17 “We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.” 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon”; 19the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners!” Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.’25 At that time Jesus said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; 26yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.28 ‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’ Sermon Recording from Sunday 28th June 2026 (Rev Adam) NOTICES PLEASE PRAY FOR The Suffering: Jennifer, John B, Matt, Stef, and Joanna.
