Ringers Return for Heritage Open Days

The Bell Tower of historic St. Andrew’s, Church, Clewer Village invite all bell ringers past, present and future to join them for a special “Ringers Return” Heritage Open Day celebration of church bells on Friday 9th September between 7 and 9pm. Don’t know your Plain Bob from a Steadman, years since you last rang or just want to explore the history of Change Ringing then this evening will ‘a-peel’ to you!

Tower Captain, Dave Hossack said “Bell ringing is a great way to meet new friends and the Tower at Clewer always welcomes fresh faces. We are just one of over 500 churches opening our Towers during Heritage Open Days 2016. I hope everyone will take this opportunity to come and visit us or their local Church and join in our celebration of this heritage activity…

The change ringing of bells in churches dates back over 500 years and is an art in its own right. There’s always something to learn and is accessible to all with deaf and blind ringers alongside young and old. Anyone can learn to ring so Heritage Open Days (8th to 11th September) offers a great opportunity to come along to your local church and have a taster of this fun and important slice of local heritage.

Dave Hossack continued “…If you can’t join us on the 9th you’re still most welcome to join our practice evening here at St. Andrew’s, any Friday between from 7:30pm to 9pm.

Heritage Open Days is a national campaign with many historic and heritage venues opening their doors free to the public. On September 9th, St. AndreWs, Mill Lane, Clewer SL4 5JH is pleased to be part of this national campaign and join the other 500+ Towers offering their bells to the public during HODs.
