Trinity Sunday

THE TRINITY EUCHARIST SERVICE IS IN ST ANDREWS CHURCH AT 10.30

Welcome This week our Muddy Bears met at Imperial Park for some Forest Church. We were exploring the number 3! We found clover leaves, of course, we made plaits out of grasses, triangles with twigs, looked closely at seeds, flowers and fruits and not forgetting the three year old! Three…the magic number we hear on a TV advert.

We celebrate Trinity Sunday this weekend, most preachers don’t like preaching and most congregations don’t like listening to because they are none the wiser as to who or what or how the Trinity works at the end of the sermon! So a group of pre-schoolers? Well, we had lots of fun.

For a bit of fun lets see if on this Trinity Sunday we can experience something different….

Let’s start with a question – what do Windsor castle or Buckingham Palace (?), an episode from Gavin and Stacey and the Trinity have in common?

And the answer is of course sandwiches!! Firstly there is the much talked about clip of the Queen with Paddington Bear having tea together and her revealing she keeps sandwiches in her handbag; the Gavin and Stacy clip is about a vicar trying to explain the Trinity using a sandwich. Bread being the Holy Spirit- constant; butter is the Father- sticking it all together and the filling is the Son- we all have a different relationship with Jesus just as we all like different sandwich fillings. Although I would say God- is the bread, the constant, Jesus is the spread sticking us together and the filling is the HS giving us all different gifts and talents! But didn’t Jesus say ‘I am the bread of life’? And we could go on about oranges and marmalade for ever!

The reality is we don’t fully understand the Trinity, but what we do know is that it is about love and relationship. We are invited into this dance, this love, to experience it and to live from it as God’s disciples of love in the world. Sometimes it feels like life is two steps forward and three steps back, but never fear, love picks us up, dusts us down and sets us again on the journey of loving disciples.

Have fun with all the heresies, with the number 3, it is an incomprehensible mystery….. but that’s ok.

Blessings, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Revd Rosie

COLLECT

Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given us your servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity
and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity:
keep us steadfast in this faith,
that we may evermore be defended from all adversities;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
All Amen

READINGS

Proverbs 8.1-4, 22-31

Does not wisdom call,
and does not understanding raise her voice?
On the heights, beside the way,
   at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries out:
‘To you, O people, I call,
and my cry is to all that live.

The Lordcreated me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of long ago.
Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth—
when he had not yet made earth and fields,
or the world’s first bits of soil.
When he established the heavens, I was there,
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
   then I was beside him, like a master worker;
and I was daily his delight,
   rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Psalm 8

O Lord our governor, •
how glorious is your name in all the world!
Your majesty above the heavens is praised •
out of the mouths of babes at the breast.
You have founded a stronghold against your foes, •
that you might still the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, •
the moon and the stars that you have ordained,
What is man, that you should be mindful of him; •
the son of man, that you should seek him out?
You have made him little lower than the angels •
and crown him with glory and honour.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands •
and put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen, •
even the wild beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, the fish of the sea •
and whatsoever moves in the paths of the sea.
O Lord our governor, •
how glorious is your name in all the world!

Romans 5.1-5

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL READING

John 16.12-15

‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.

INTERCESSIONS – TREVOR MORGAN

Into your hands, O God, we commend ourselves this day. Let your presence be with us to its close. Enable us to feel that in doing our work we are doing your will and that in serving others we are serving you. Amen

You are holy, God the creator, giving us richly all things to enjoy. You are holy, Christ the Saviour of the world, made flesh to set us free. You are holy, spirit of truth and love, willing to dwell in us. You are holy and blessed, O God, eternal Trinity. We worship you. Amen

Lord Jesus, Master Carpenter of Nazareth, who on the cross through wood and nails worked our whole salvation, wield well your tools in this your workshop, that we who come to you rough hewn may by your hands be fashioned to a truer beauty and a greater usefulness for the honour of your holy name.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

O God our Father, you love all your children in this and every nation. We give you thanks for Elizabeth our Queen at this time of recent Jubilee. Give her your strength and protection, your love and your peace, that she may joyfully serve you and her people all the days of her life. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Friend
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

We pray for our land. Raise up, we pray, nobler men and women that shall scorn bribes, that shall not run greedily to ambition, that shall not be devoured by selfishness, people that fear God and love mankind, people that shall love this country with a pure and disinterested love. So we beseech you, our Father, that peace may stand firm upon integrity and that righteousness may everywhere prevail,
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

God of all peoples and nations, who created all things alive and breathing, united and whole, show us the way of peace that is your overwhelming presence. We hold before you the peoples of Ukraine and Russia, every child and every adult. We look forward to the time when weapons of war are beaten into ploughshares, when nations no longer lift up swords against nation and we cry out to you for peace. Protect those, O Lord, who only desire to live in security and safety. Comfort all who fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Be with those who are bereaved. Change the hearts of those set on violence and aggression and fill leaders with the wisdom that leads to peace. Kindle again in us a love of our neighbour and a passion for justice to prevail and a renewed recognition that we can all play a part in achieving peace. Creator of all, hear our prayer,
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Breathe down, O Lord, on all who are unwell your spirit of healing, your spirit of life, your spirit of peace and hope, of love and joy, your spirit of courage and endurance. Cast out from them the spirit of anxiety and fear and grant them perfect confidence in you that in your light they too may see light. In our own community we especially commend to our heavenly Father, Blake, Sam, Reuben, Don, Karl, Hugh and Sarah, Joanna, Pam, Holly, Hugo, Frank and Barbara, Bill, Suzanne, Christopher, Jackie, Norman and Diane, Patricia, Frank, and Pauline. Refugees, Prisoners, the Homeless and those who mourn.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

O Father of all, we pray to you for those we love but see no longer. All those recently departed this life, Barry Armstrong and Elenor (Sylvia) Sinclair, and those whose anniversaries fall at this time. Grant them your peace and let light perpetual shine on them. In your loving wisdom and almighty power work in them the good purpose of your perfect will through Jesus Christ our Lord
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ .Amen

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Almighty and eternal God,
you have revealed yourself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
and live and reign in the perfect unity of love:
hold us firm in this faith,
that we may know you in all your ways
and evermore rejoice in your eternal glory,
who are three Persons yet one God,
now and for ever
Amen
