| † St Andrews Proclaiming Christ in Clewer 14 April 2024 The 3rd Sunday of Easter |
![]() WELCOME During the Easter season this year we’re thinking about people whose lives are changed by that first Easter day; people who encounter Jesus, risen from the dead and bringing new hope and meaning to their lives. Last week we thought about Thomas. One man whose own personal experience of Easter enabled him to move from doubt to faith in his risen Lord. This week we hear about a number of people who witness Jesus coming among them, showing them his wounds and eating food to convince them that he really is alive. They are convinced and the experience changes their own lives and their life together as a community of believers. As a community of believers here in Clewer, we are growing! And it is such a privilege to be able to welcome in and get to know all those who come through our doors and worship with us. Everyone has a story to tell, everyone is on a journey and for what ever reason, they have turned up at our door and our lives are being changed by new relationships. Easter has changed our lives!! The life, death and resurrection of Jesus is still impacting people’s lives, the friends, and disciples in the room after the event, frightened and unsure, yes, like them we too have so many questions. We may never find the answer we think we want and need, but we are talking about it and that is the difference for us here and now. Each of us follows Jesus in our own way, shaped by our life experiences and who knows where the journey will take us, but we take it together growing together in faith, hope and love, as Easter people. Alleluia Christ is risen! Blessings Revd Rosie COLLECT Almighty Father, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples with the sight of the risen Lord: give us such knowledge of his presence with us, that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life and serve you continually in righteousness and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen READINGS Acts 3.12-19 When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, ‘You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. ‘And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah would suffer. Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God 1 John 3.1-7 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Everyone who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Gospel Reading Luke 24.36b-48 Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, ‘Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.’ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43and he took it and ate in their presence. Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you – that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. INTERCESSIONS Living God, long ago, faithful women proclaimed the good news of Jesus’ resurrection, and the world was changed forever. Help us to keep faith with them, that our witness may be as bold, our love as deep, and joy and amazement as real as was theirs when he appeared to them.Gracious God help us all to play an active part in the vision of this Parish, ever focusing on Christ’s call to all of us to be witnesses and to make disciples of all mankind. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer Creator God, you gave us a beautiful world to live in and to care for. We know that in many areas our Stewardship has been a failure yet, through the victory of Jesus Christ, we know also that you can restore all things in glory; and so we pray for a change of heart and attitude, an awakening to a better way of living, and the courage to reject wrong principles. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer Father God, we pray for our Parish communities, that each of us might make use of our individual talents enabling each church group to flourish as a witness to the “One Body” of the church. Help us to spread the warmth of your love to everyone we meet. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer Loving God, we pray for those who do not share our Easter joy especially those living in the shadow of darkness and despair and for those whose illness narrows their view of the world. We especially pray for all those who have requested prayer and in the quietness of our hearts we raise before You those who we know who are also in need. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer Merciful God, we pray for those whose hearts have been saddened by the death of someone close and dear to them, for members of our families who have died and whose anniversary we recall. Help us to experience the comfort of the Holy Spirit within us, and the fellowship of the church family around us until we are reunited once more in your heavenly kingdom. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our Prayer Faithful God, in the week that lies before us may we reflect your love in our families, our church and our community; so that the world can see that we are followers of Christ and children of the most High God, and draw others into his loving care. Merciful Father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen From the Chaplaincy of the Holy Spirit Costa Blanca POST COMMUNION Living God, your Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: open the eyes of our faith, that we may see him in all his redeeming work; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.
